O.J. Simpson's final words before his death this week did not include any deathbed confession about the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, according to a report.

Speculation that Simpson may have spoken about the murders he was accused of committing but later acquitted of began to emerge shortly after the Hall of Fame football player died Wednesday at the age of 76 following a cancer diagnosis.

But an unnamed source with direct knowledge shut down the rumor, telling TMZ it was "totally false."

The insider went on to reveal what Simpson purportedly did talk about before his passing, which included expressing a desire to watch golf.

"Unless being thirsty and asking for water is a confession ... or wanting to watch the golf tournament," the source told TMZ. "Nothing about the L.A. thing came up or was even thought about."

The insider was referring to the June 1994 stabbing deaths of Nicole and Goldman outside her Los Angeles home.

Simpson was charged with double homicide, but following a televised trial, he was found not guilty of the double murder in 1995.

He was later found liable for the murders in a wrongful death lawsuit and ordered to pay $33.5 million to Nicole's and Goldman's families. At the time of Simpson's death, most of the judgment still hadn't been paid.

The amount Simpson owed allegedly had ballooned to more than $114 million this year due to interest, Goldman family lawyer David Cook told People.

Over the years, Simpson had maintained his innocence in the killings.

He told The Athletic in 2021 that he refused to return to L.A. because he may run into his ex-wife's killer.

"People may think this is self-serving, but I might be sitting next to whoever did it," Simpson claimed. "I really don't know who did this."

But the speculation that he committed the double murder never stopped.

Simpson once wrote a book in which he described how he would have hypothetically killed Brown and Goldman.

Simpson eventually did go to prison in 2007 but for non-related felony charges of armed robbery and kidnapping rather than murder. He served nearly nine years out of his 33-year prison sentence.

In May last year, Simpson revealed via X, formerly Twitter, that he had cancer and underwent chemotherapy.

Earlier this year, he shut down rumors that he was in hospice.

"All is well," a seemingly upbeat Simpson said in a video he shared via X.

However, just two months later, his family announced via social media that he succumbed to cancer.

TMZ reported that Simpson's friends reportedly came to Las Vegas last week to say goodbye.
