The Hollywood Reporter spoke with the show's creator Shonda Rhimes, lead star Kerry Washington (Olivia Pope), Tony Goldwyn (POTUS, Fitz) for this week's issue.

Goldwyn, who plays President Fitzgerald Grant described the upcoming season 3 as a "tsunami."

"Season three begins with a tsunami, like this explosion that completely floods the White House," the actor told The Hollywood Reporter.

Here is a list of spoilers to expect in Scandal season 3 based on the interviews in The Hollywood Reporter.

Spoiler 1: Rhimes reveals that the first episode of season 3 will pick up almost directly from the ending of the season 2 finale. She said episode 1 will begin with 22 minutes after the final moment in season 2 when Olivia discovered that it was her father Rowan (Joe Morton) who rescued her from paparazzi with a waiting limousine.

Spoiler 2: Washington revealed that viewers will learn about Olivia's hidden past for the time.

"Olivia, with these two bombs of her name being leaked and her dad showing up, has a lot to navigate," Washington said of her character. "You're going to learn a lot about Olivia's past; it's really shocking."

Spoiler 3: Although Olivia and Fitz have broken up, their relationship has become complicated because it was leaked to the press. The former couple will try to figure out how to navigate it in the first episode.

"That is going to pose an interesting challenge for them that we're going to see them try to deal with in the first episode back," Rhimes said.

Spoiler 4: The person who outed Olivia as Fitz's mistress will be revealed in the Oct. 3 premiere. Rhimes revealed that while Mellie appears the most obvious pick, there are many others that stand to gain a lot from revealing Olivia's affair.

"You'd be surprised by how many people have motive and opportunity and means," Rhimes explained of others who may have snitched.

"It's an incredible hour of television of going on the ride to find out who leaked it, and you will find out in the first episode back," she said, adding, "It's the big giant domino and sets the whole season in motion."

Spoiler 5: Goldwyn partially reveals that Cyus, Fitz's Chief of Staff, outed the affair. "We know that Cyrus has no boundaries in what he'd do to protect his interests, so you've got this very good horse race that's building up."

Spoiler 6: Fitz's re-election will play out during the second half of season 3.

"I don't know if we're going to get there in the first half of the season, but we are heading in that direction. It's a big deal. We're at the timeline where that starts to be an issue," Rhimes added.

ABC will premiere season 3 of Scandal on Oct. 3 at 10 p.m. EST.
