An old video of Tamar Braxton talking about Whitney Houston has resurfaced online.

On Wednesday, X user @That_Guy_Trei posted a video of the "All the Way Home" artist's 2022 interview on the "State of Black Music" podcast. In the clip, the singer was asked to choose between Houston and Mariah Carey during the "This or That" segment of the interview.

"I've never been a huge Whitney fan like that," Braxton responded.

After the hosts and the audience reacted to her response, the "All the Way Home" songstress tried to explain her answer.

"No, no. Wait. I don't want you guys to take it out of context here. I'm not saying that I don't like her music. I'm not saying that she wasn't a phenomenal singer. I'm not saying her songs [weren't] amazing," Tamar clarified.

"But, for me, 'cause you asked me a personal question, my personal preference will always be Mariah Carey. Period."

Her statement from the resurfaced clip received mixed reactions from the netizens, especially on X, formerly Twitter.

"And your personal preference is wrong. The way this sound byte started off let me know I was about to be ticked," tweeted one netizen.

"It's giving hater. It's like when people try to humble Beyoncé knowing she has bops. Not saying you have to stan, but you also could've made the point without saying you don't like Whitney," opined someone else.

Meanwhile, others claimed that there was nothing wrong with Tamar's statement because it showed her preference. However, they agreed that she could have phrased her statement better.

"It's the delivery. She could have focused on the positive and said, 'I've ALWAYS been a huge Mariah fan,' and the reception probably would have been better," wrote another person.

"If she was never that big of a fan of Whitney when compared to Mariah, was she supposed to lie or something? You all are weird," a different person commented.

"Why does she 'have to be' a huge Whitney fan anyway? People can like who they like," stated a different netizen.

Tamar's statement did not sit well with some netizens because the "I Will Always Love You" singer had shown her support since the beginning of her career.

In 2013, she told Arsenio Hall about her encounter with Whitney, saying, "She came up to me, and she was like, 'I couldn't stop listening to you. You sound amazing. I heard you through the whole band.'"

"Unfortunately, my single came out after she passed. And it just really would have meant a lot to me if she was here, but I know she is looking down."

In a 2016 interview on "The Meredith Vieira Show," she also talked about Houston recognizing her talent while she was a backup singer for her sister.

"She noticed me, and when I met her backstage, she was just like, 'Wow, you're amazing. You can really, really sing,'" she recalled.

Aside from the compliments, the late singer also influenced her career. Last year, when Tamar reflected on Houston's pieces of advice to her, she said the latter taught and educated her a lot about the industry, even about dating as a celebrity.

In June 2020, the "Love and War" artist also sampled Whitney's hit song "Saving All My Love For You" and channeled "her inner Whitney Houston" in her single "Crazy Kind of Love."
