A season of good-natured ribbing between two Los Angeles Dodgers players came to a head on Monday when actor Danny DeVito could be seen on the field embracing infielder Nick Punto.

The unlikely series of events begin when the Dodgers' second baseman Skip Schumaker joked that his long-time friend and teammate resembled the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Later in the season, Schumaker heard fan Dr. David Kipper say he was bringing DeVito along to the next game, states the Los Angeles Times. In a stroke of brilliance, Schumaker handed him a Punto jersey and asked if he could convince his friend to wear it.

As luck would have it, DeVito did wear the No. 7 jersey and Punto happened to lead his team to victory against the long-suffering New York Mets with a home run.

After celebrating Punto's triumph with much cheering in the stands and a high-five from the athlete, the 68-year-old actor stopped to momentarily interrupt the player's post-game interview, reports UPI.

Glove still on his left hand, Punto embraced the Batman Returns villain during an interview with Fox Sports.

Check out the video below to see what Punt and DeVito has to say about the game.
