Days away from the season premiere of VH1's Basketball Wives, Evelyn Lozada is denying being at fault for the end of her ex-husband, Chad 'Ochocinco' Johnson's NFL career.

The couple made headlines August 2012 when Johnson headbutted Lozada after she found a receipt to condoms he purchased. The two had just married July 4th and ended up divorcing 41 days later. Johnson was released from Miami Dolphins a day after he was arrested for domestic battery charges, but Lozada claims she isn't to blame for his departure from the NFL.

"I felt like everybody blamed me for him being let go from the team. 'Oh, you ruined his career.' And it was hard for me 'cause I know that I didn't do anything wrong that day. I need to protect myself but you know," she said in an interview, according to Bossip.com. " I didn't think that I would end up with six stitches on my forehead almost two months after we got married."

The 37-year-old said that the media has always criticized her relationship with Johnson since the pair started dated on the reality show.

"And after the incident happened, it was hard because there was this perception about Evelyn. You know, 'All she does is argues and fights.' I didn't tweet, I didn't say anything 'cause I felt like I needed a bigger platform to explain what happened," she said.

Lozada said this season of Basketball Wives will be different. Unlike the cat fights that occurred in the past seasons, the reality star said fans will get to see a different side of her.

Basketball Wives Season 5 airs on VH1 Monday, Aug. 19.
