America's Got Talent judge Howie Mandel may have dissed one of this season's contestants in a recent article.

Mandel, who writes a column for Parade about America's Got Talent every week, discussed country singer Jimmy Rose in his column on Thrusday.

Mandel wrote that Rose advanced because of his backstory, rather than his actual talent.

"There are people balancing 30 feet in the air and coming close to death who aren't going [to] go through because they're not that sweet, loveable country guy who can sing," Mandel wrote.

The judge said that he was "slammed" after his comments during Tuesday's performance show and Wednesday's results show. He told Rose that people would vote for him because of his story (country singer who loves America and is a war veteran) rather than on the strength of his talent.

In his article, Mandel said Aerial Ice, a group that combined iceskating with acrobatics, should have been moved on to the next round.

"Combining the two was beautiful and certainly entertaining," he wrote. "But nobody knows any of their names--nobody knows who they are and what they stand for."

Mandel concluded that if you put "a nice young country boy" on the stage "who serves his country, is wonderfully humble and is a nice kid who can sing, he will win over that death-defying mash-up every day."

During Tuesday and Wednesday's live shows, Mandel mentioned another country singer, Marty Brown, who was voted through to the semifinals by America, as proof of this trend. The judges panned Brown's performance of You're Still the One by Shania Twain, yet America still voted him through to the next round.

Mandel did not say he was upset that Rose advanced, but admitted that if Brown could advance in the competition, then Rose certainly could.
