One of today's hottest pop stars is joining the cast of Glee in a recurring role for season 5.

Demi Lovato, famous for such songs as Skyscraper and Heart Attack, is close to signing a deal for a role on Glee next season, according to a Monday report by TVLine.

Lovato will be playing Dani, a struggling artist from New York City who befriends Rachel (Lea Michele) and Santana (Naya Rivera). Lovato will also share the screen with American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert's character. Lovato and Lambert's characters will spend a lot of time with each other and interact on multiple musical performances.

Lovato is slated to appear in at least six episodes during season 5. Her first appearance will be in episode 2, which is the final part of the two-episode tribute to The Beatles. The second episode of the season will air on Thursday, Oct. 3.

The singer/actress is also a judge on Fox's The X Factor, so Glee producers will be working around her schedule, according to the TVLine article.

Lovato and Lambert are just two of the many guests who will appear on the next season of Glee. The producers are also looking to cast a new male lead for the show. While the new lead will not necessarily be a replacement for the late Cory Montieth, who played Finn, he will have a significant role in the series going forward.

Season 5 of Glee premieres Thursday, Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. on Fox.
