Although Ted Danson's character may be doubting his purpose when CSI: Crime Scene Investigation returns for its 14th season, the actor should not be conserned about his job with the show.

The CBS show will kick off the season on Sept. 25 with "The Devil and D.B. Russell." Picking up where last season's "Skin in the Game" left off (see video below), the Las Vegas based investigators will be busy tracking down the Dante's Inferno killer in hopes that they will be able to retrieve Morgan (Elisabeth Harnois) and Ellie Brass (Teal Redmann).

"What's going to happen is it is classic whodunit, a little bit of the usual suspects thrown in for good measure," said Robert David Hall (Dr. Al Robbins), according to a CBS interview.

However, the conclusion of the case will not come without a great personal cost.

When the premiere begins, most of the CSI team will be gathered at a funeral. While viewers won't know who is in the casket, it will be evident that Russell (Danson) will have taken the person's death very hard.

"He's in crisis by the end; he feels responsible," said executive producer Don McGill, according to TV Guide. "We'll see as the season progresses that there may be some questioning of his purpose."

While Russell may be having a hard time of things during his second season as a character, Danson has proved to be a great addition to the cast.

"Ted Danson and Elizabeth Shue [Julie Finlay] have even more chemistry than they did last year," Hall said of his co-stars, according to CBS. "They're kind of the rookies on our show and they're the leads, and were so lucky...it's rare that you replace the leads of a show and that it works so well but we've got a lot of the original cast members...and we've got this fabulous new chemistry with these guys."

Look for CSI to return to CBS on Sept. 25.
