Lindsay Lohan locked down the role of screen legend Elizabeth Taylor in the new Lifetime made-for-TV biopic, the network confirmed.

The TV network's 'Liz and Dick' movie is based on the romance of the iconic actress with Richard Burton. It will begin production in June.

"I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor," Lohan said. "She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role."

The movie marks Lohan's comeback after a pictorial in the double January/February issue of Playboy and hosting Saturday Night Live in March.

Prior to her more recent good fortune, the 25-year-old actress has had a non-stop stream of problems, landing her in and out of court, jail and rehab.

Yet Lifetime's decision has sparked strong criticism by TV personality Rosie O'Donnell who claims Lohan is not right for the role.

"The last thing she did good she was sixteen," O'Donnell said. "I don't think she's right for the role and I don't think she's capable at this point to portray that character," O'Donnell added.
