Ben Stiller has finally come on board as executive producer for an NBC spin-off series of the 1994 flim Reality Bites, Deadline reports.

The duo of Stiller and Helen Childress will reprise their collaboration as director and writer for the show. The single-camera project comedy will also revolve around the slacker-drama themed lives of the film's protagonist Lelaina Pierce and her friends Troy, Vickie, and Sammy.

The original film starred Winona Ryder (Pierce), Ethan Hawke (Troy), Janeane Garofalo (Vickie), Steve Zahn (Sammy), and Ben Stiller (Michael).

The coming-of-age story is set in Houston and follows the life of recent college graduate, Pierce, who is struggling to make it as a documentary filmmaker, dealing with new responsibilities, and figuring out how to navigate her relationships with lovers, friends, and family. The series will maintain the early Nineties setting of the movie.

Nothing has been revealed about the casting for the show yet.

The series is being produced by Universal Television, a sister concern of the film's producer Universal Pictures. Co-producing with Uni TV are Stiller's Red Hour Television and Double Feature Films, the company run by Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher, who were  also producers on the 1994 film.

Stiller's upcoming film, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, an adaptation of James Thurber's 1939 short story, will have its world premiere as the centrepiece of the New York Film Festival on Oct. 5. The film stars Stiller and Kristen Wiig
