Lady Gaga opened the MTV Video Music Awards with style when she performed her latest single, Applause.

Donning a sparkling blue jacket, Lady Gaga took the stage on Sunday night, standing out against a white background. Accompanied by an array of black clad backup dancers, the singer showed off a short blond hair style as she riled up excited fans at the start of the VMAs.

The new track hails from Mother Monster's upcoming album, Artpop. While the pop star has been rather quite for nearly two years, Lady Gaga recently broke back into the public conscience with the release of the Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin directed Applause music video.

The 27-year-old performer made an effort to emulate the recent video during her VMA performance.

"I am opening the show," Lady Gaga said, according to MTV. "I'm dancing and what you see in the [Applause] video is where I am now with my body. I'm dancing 'til my feet bleed every day to make sure I give the fans a performance that they won't forget."

On Friday the Born This Way singer took to Twitter in order to give fans a glimpse of what was in store for the Sunday's performance.

"We're opening the show! 'Applause' starring Lady Gaga," the singer tweeted after posting a picture of herself with nearly 20 other dancers, all decked out in black leotards.

Artpop, Lady Gaga's third studio album, will drop Nov. 11 via Interscope.
