On Sunday night, Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke hit the stage together at the MTV Video Music Awards for an astonishingly raunchy performance

As an unlikely duet, the pair collaborated on Thicke's recent controversial hit Blurred Lines.

Following Cyrus' decent from the innards of a giant teddy bear, the former Disney Channel star left behind whatever remaining innocence she had. In a silver leotard, the 20-year-old pop star stuck out her tongue as she took her place among a plethora of dancing, life-sized bears.

Singing the opening section of the song on her own, the young performer twerked for the audience before Robin Thicke made his appearance on stage.

Grasping a golden mic and donning a white and black striped suit, the R&B performer stood cool and calm in the midst of his ever moving dancers. Soon he was being licked by a bikini donning Cyrus as she grinded against him while sticking a foam finger out from between her legs.

As Internet users were creating GIFs of Cyrus twerking and recording their thoughts on the rather disturbing and highly sexualized performance, the pair still had awards to anticipate.

Nominated for three awards, Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines featuring T.I. and Pharrell was in the running for Video of the Year, Best Male Video, and Best Collaboration. Cyrus's We Can't Stop was nominated for Best Pop Video and Best Female Video.

Thicke first dropped Blurred Lines back in March in anticipation of his July album of the same name. The song climbed the charts, hitting No. 1 around the world and quickly going multi-platinum .

While the 20-year-old Cyrus has not released a studio album since 2010's Can't Be Tamed, the singer is currently gearing up for her October debut of Bangerz.
