Season 7 might be the last season for HBO's long-running vampire series True Blood.

True Blood showrunner Brian Buckner revealed to TVLine on Friday that they do not know if the show will go beyond season 7. Should the series end with season 7, Buckner and his writers have started to plan for that possibility.

"That conversation is happening, but we don't have an answer yet," Buckner revealed. "I'm being told that I will know -- which doesn't mean that I will tell everybody. But I will know when the writers resume in the room [next month] whether or not we're wrapping it up or not."

HBO president Michael Lombardo praised the show at the Television Critics Association press tour in July, claiming that Buckner injected new energy into it after taking over in season 6. Lombardo said that the series could definitely extend beyond seven seasons.

Buckner has already revealed that season 7 of True Blood will be a return to the show's roots. Much of the action will take place in Bon Temps, which is a change from the past few seasons of the show, which has featured an abundance of characters in many different locations.

Very few spoilers have been released about the new season. Though Eric's (Alexander Skarsgard) death was left up in the air in the season 6 finale, Buckner has since revealed that Eric is alive and Skarsgard will continue to be a series regular in season 7. There will also be an emphasis on Hep V, the deadly vampire drug, in the new season.
