The CW's Vampire Diaries continues to garner anticipation for its fifth season, which will be kicking off in the fall.

One of the topics that's undoubtedly on the minds of its fans is the future relationship status of Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Somerhalder), who recently rekindled their romance at the end of the fourth installment.

True to his nature, Somerhalder didn't sugar coat what's in the cards for the onscreen couple, reasoning that long-term happiness doesn't usually exist in Mystic Falls, according to Cafe Mom.

"To be in love with this woman who really broke your heart, and then all of a sudden to find a woman who is identical in every way, shape and form, who is 160 years his junior ... bear in mind that this is The Vampire Diaries, so people being happy for long doesn't exist," he said.
