Co-stars Michael Douglas and Matt Damon are the first presenters announced for the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, which will take place on Sept. 22.

The duo most recently gave a powerful performance in HBO's Behind the Candelabra. The film aired on HBO in May 2013 and its theatrical release was in June. Behind the Candelabra garnered 15 Emmy nominations this year, including Best Actor for Douglas and Best Supporting Actor for Damon. 

In the film, which is directed by Steven Sodenbergh, Douglas plays the role of Liberace and Damon portrays his longtime lover Scott Thornson. The film is largely based on Thornson's memoir, which reveals the details of his affair with Liberace. After the film was releasedThornson also claimed to have had an affair with the late Michael Jackson.

The awards ceremony, which will take place at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, will be telecast live on CBS. 

In April 2013, Douglas separated from his wife, actress Catherine Zeta Jones. They had been married for 12 years.

It was recently announced that Damon will be playing a small role in Christophar Nolan's upcoming film, Interstellar. Damon has also decided to make his directorial debut with The Foreigner. The film is based on the screenplay for a A Murder Foretold, which has been penned by Argo's screenwriter Chris Terrio.

Last year's Emmy Awards were hosted by late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.
