Ryan Seacrest was booed by Broncos fans as he opened NBC's NFL pre-game show at the Denver Broncos' Sports Authority field on Sept. 5.

Seems like fans didn't think him worthy enough to open a sporting event, but Seacrest was totally psyched about the gig and had been gearing-up for the day. He even tweeted about his excitement the day before making his debut:

"Working the NFL season opener! Finally those 2-a-days paid off. I hope my high school coach is watching. #Kickoff2013".

The booing began as soon as Seacrest's entry was announced ("Please welcome - Ryan Seacrest"), and he walked onto the field (flanked by cheerleaders on either side.) There was no stopping the crowd as they jeered through Seacrest's bit, which was soundtracked to the the intro of The Final Countdown.

"I only know of one other countdown that might be as big as this show," he said, referencing his hosting the New Year's eve ball-drop countdown for ABC.

"America is ready for 17 weeks of excitement, followed by the drama of the playoffs, all culminating in New York at the Super Bowl!"  he continued. "So come on Denver, let's join these football greats - representing all 32 teams - and ring in the NFL season! Here we go!" The booing persisted right through to the very end.

The dissension caused by the choice for opening presenter also prevailed on Twitter.

Jimm Orr, Managing Editor (Digital) of the LA Times, who was one of many disapproving voices, tweeted"Ryan Seacrest? Please. This is football. Bring back John Madden."

Country musician, Keith Urban performed as part of the kick-off concert at the event.
