Former Disney star Demi Lovato has dealt with the repercussions of being a celebrity.

"I went from movie to album to touring to television and back...being in the limelight wasn't the root of my problems, but it didn't help," she told U.K.'s Fabulous magazine in 2012. "I never took more than two weeks off in four years, and it caught up with me."

The singer also battled an eating disorder when she was a 12-year-old, and in 2010, at the age of 18, she entered rehab.

"I'm not gonna lie. I was self-medicating. I was doing things like drinking and using [drugs], like a lot of teens do to numb their pain," she told Seventeen about her decision to enter an Illinois rehab in a 2012 interview.

Lovato also told Fabulous magazine that her dangerous lifestyle stemmed from a bad circle of friends and club promoters, who often offered her drugs.

The young star also discussed her past difficulties on her latest album Demi, which was released in May. On the ballad Warrior, for example, she sings, "Now I'm a warrior, now I've got thicker skin, I'm a warrior, I'm stronger than I've ever been and my armor is made of steel, you can't get in."

The Heart Attack singer seems to be in a better place. Her latest album debuted at No. 3 on Billboard and Lovato has returned for the upcoming season of X Factor.

"Being a celebrity can be dangerous. Nobody says 'no,'" she also told Fabulous. "That's why so many end up overdosing and dying. It could definitely have happened to me."
