NeNe Leakes and Kim Zolciak's friendship had its ups and downs in real life that also played out on-screen on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, but the former co-stars are in a good place now and have moved past their differences.

The reality stars, once best friends, turned on each other and did not talk for some time while they starred together on the Bravo series. They have since gone in different directions in their lives. Zolciak married NFL player Kroy Biermann in November 2011 and together they have two sons with her expecting twins, announced in August. She also has two daughters from previous relationships. Her spin-off series, Don't Be Tardy for the Wedding, aired in 2012.

Leakes married Gregg Leakes for a second time on June 22 and her spin-off show, I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding, premieres Sept. 17. She has taken her acting career into overdrive and has a reoccurring role on FOX's Glee while also starring in NBC's The New Normal and Housewives of Atlanta.

In a conference call Tuesday with Enstars, NeNe talked about her relationship with Zolciak and where they currently stand.

"Kim and I have [had] a long relationship," she said. "We've definitely been through things. I would stay that we're cool."

She also complimented the expecting mother by saying Zolciak was always "real" when they filmed Housewives of Atlanta together - unlike some other people.

"I deal with a lot of fakeness on a daily basis, it's just the industry that I'm in and I feel like, when Kim and I together -- we joined the Housewives the same time -- I felt like Kim was very true to who she was, although we didn't always get along. I felt she was real."

NeNe also said she has congratulated Zolciak on her pregnancy and that they text message each other talking about the babies, though the latter is keeping the genders a secret.

"I was so shocked I'm like, 'twins, boy you are so fertile, my god,' " she joked. "I cannot believe that Kim is going to have six kids, like seriously, I don't know anybody with six kids."

Watch I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding premiering Tuesday, Sept. 17, 9 p.m. ET.
