Saturday's Powerball jackpot climbs to $317 million and the nine-figure sum becomes the fourth multistate jackpot to go above the $300 million mark in 2013.

In August, a $448 million pot was split between three winning tickets, two of which went to winners in New Jersey.

On Sept. 14, the Powerball numbers will be revealed.

The cash payout for the Saturday drawing currently stands at $176.3 million. The odds of winning the instant fortune with a single $2 ticket are about 175,000,000-to-1.

The drawing continues a recent trend of huge Powerball payouts. The prize hit $590.5 million in May and $587.5 million in November 2012.

Powerball jackpots start at $40 million. Individual play tickets cost $2.

The game involves the drawing of five white balls from a set of 59 and one red ball, the Powerball, from a set of 35. There are nine ways to win, including a $1 million prize for matching the five white balls.
