The season 1 finale of Under the Dome answered a lot of big questions, but series creator Neal Baer cleared up any remaining questions and previewed season 2 in a recent interview.

Baer talked to TVGuide in a Tuesday interview and cleared up the events that took place in Monday's finale. He began by revealing the purpose of the butterfly being trapped under the dome.

"It was trying to get out and every time it hit the dome, it would cause blackness to appear," Baer explained. "It was the dome signaling that the Monarch needed to get out and the Four Hands needed to get their act together." Baer added that the mini-dome and the big dome were trying to give the residents of Chester's Mill the same message that having Big Jim in charge was a disaster waiting to happen.

Another big moment of the season 1 finale was Junior (Alexander Koch) making amends with his father, Big Jim. Jim told Junior that the dome was brought down upon Chester's Mill because they were a special family. However, it wasn't clear if Junior was truly on his father's side after everything they've gone through.

"There were all those wonderful moments when Junior said, "It's going to be very bad for us if you're lying." Junior is always questioning," Baer said. Big Jim always has a response to Junior, but Junior is always questioning. Even in that look in Junior's eyes, he's still wondering if his father is telling the truth." Baer said that Junior is torn between his love for his father and was he truly believes about the man in his gut.

Finally, Baer teased that viewers might see Big Jim's deceased wife in season 2, but did not stress one way or the other if this was true.

Season 2 of Under the Dome will premiere in summer 2014 on CBS.
