NCIS: Los Angeles is only one week from their season 5 premiere and the inaugural episode promises to be both gruesome and heart wrenching.

Titled "Ascension," the premiere picks up moments after the ending of last spring's "Descent." As the episode came to an end, Sam (LL Cool J) and Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) were being tortured at the hands of Siderov (Timothy V. Murphy) as they tried to protect the identity of Sam's wife, Michele (Aunjanue Ellis), who was busy trying not to fall over 30 floors to her death.

However, TV Line cautions fans not to underestimate Sam's female counterpart. Although Sidorov's lackeys may have fled at the sight of Kensi (Daniela Ruah), the two agents probably won't get out of their predicament quite so easy.

Although previews have revealed that Sam and Deeks will eventually be rescued from their current confinement, the pair will be further injured during the premiere. While a new promo shows the men being shot, TV Guide says that someone on the show will loose a body part before the Sidorov and Janvier (Christopher Lambert) story is wrapped up.

Sam and Deeks may be able to quickly heal their physical wounds; it will take more time for the team members to get over the psychological effects of the last few episodes. Viewers can expect to see heart-breaking scenes between Sam and Deeks as well as between Deeks and Kensi.

NCIS: LA returns to CBS on Sept. 24.
