Ryan Gosling is being considered for the role of J.D. Salinger in an upcoming Weinstein produced biopic about the elusive author, according to a Telegraph report.

The Weinstein company, which came out with the Shane Salerno-directed documentary about Salinger's life earlier this month, is going ahead with a biopic based on the author's life. It will focus on the author's life between his World War II service and the publication of The Catcher in the Rye in 1951. The film will also seek to examine "the effects war can have on an artist."

Gosling is being considered for the main role in the film, according to the Telegraph. Gosling is currently directing his debut film How to Catch a Monster, which stars both him and his girlfriend, Eva Mendez. The entire film is being shot in Detroit.

The biopic will also be written be Salerno, who wrote for the documentary, SalingerSalerno's documentary attempted to capture and humanize the mystical persona of the elusive author and took about nine years to make. Salerno (ArmageddonSavages) worked with code names, hidden identities and surveillance cameras while researching Salinger's life for this documentary and book. The production of the film was kept top secret through this period.

"It was run like a CIA operation. Everything was compartmentalized, top secret and on a need-to-know basis. It was really intense," co-producer Jeffrey Doe told The Associated Press about the making of the film. In the nine years, Salerno managed to conduct more than 100 interviews with Salinger's friends, war buddies and fans. The film also featured interviews with the likes of Philip Seymour Hoffman and Ed Norton, who are great fans of Salinger.

The documentary received mixed reviews from critics and the press.

The film was released on Sept. 6. A biography about Salinger, also written by Salerno, hit the shelves on Sept. 3.
