After landing the groundbreaking role of Anastasia Steele in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, one would assume that actress Dakota Johnson would definitively be thrilled.

However, several fans of E.L. James' racy read have been aggressively taking to the web in protest of her recent casting, which has reportedly left the actress reeling.

According to the National Enquirer, Johnson appears to be  in danger of relapsing back into her old substance abusing ways, as she's "deeply hurt" by the backlash she's received for being attached to the part of the shy, college graduate.

"After she was chosen for the movie, Dakota was on top of the world. But when she became the target of irate fans of the book, it freaked her out. With all the pressure, she could easily slip and fall off the wagon," a friend told the site.

Fifty Shades screenwriter Kelly Marcel stated that she'd be staying true to the  original content of James' books with lots of sex and raunchiness. The highly anticipated flick is scheduled to launch on the big screen on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2014. Be sure to keep checking back for more of the latest information on the film.
