When Supernatural returns for season 9, Sam (Jared Padalecki) is laying immobile in the hospital while Dean (Jensen Ackles) wrecks the place in an effort to save his little brother, according to new photos.

While trailers and sneak peeks have shown Dean running through hospital halls as windows explode around him, showering the hunter in glass shards, recently released photos from the premiere show a calmer, although still ominous, scene.

A slightly battered Dean hunkers down in with a sick Sam and the fallen Ezekiel (Tahmoh Penikett) after defacing the walls with sigils to keep the inhabitants safe from angels and demons alike. The wingless angel then touches both of the Winchesters' foreheads, presumably transporting Dean inside his brother's mind.

Once the older sibling makes an arrival between Sammy's ears, the duo are seen driving down a darkened two-lane blacktop in their signature Impala. They won't be alone for long, however. The previously deceased Bobby Singer (Jim Beaver) will make an appearance in the premiere, most likely to give his favorite idjits a bit of advice on life and death.

Promos for the first episode, "I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here," further show a confrontation between Sam and Dean as well as a worrisome encounter with Death (Julian Richings). Meanwhile, outside Sam's grapefruit, Abaddon (Alaina Huffman) will be attempting to gain control of the denizens of both Heaven and Hell while Castiel (Misha Collins) deals with his new-found humanity.

Supernatural returns to the CW on a new night (see video here) beginning Oct. 8. Check out new batch of Ackles and Padalecki season 9 promo photos here.
