Michael Douglas took home the 2013 Emmy award Sunday night for best actor in miniseries or movie, but it was his acceptance speech that touched the lives of many.

The 68-year-old won for his portrayal of Liberace in the HBO biopic, "Behind the Cadelabra," and when appeared on stage, he immediately jokingly thanked his co-star Matt Damon, 42, who played his lover Scott Thorson in the movie.

"Matt, you're only as good... as your other half...This is a two-hander and Matt, you're only as good as your other hand," Douglas said, adding, "Matt, you deserve half of this. You want the bottom or the top?"

Then Michael took a more serious note, when he thanked his current wife, Catherine Zeta Jones and recognized his son Cameron, who is currently in prison.

"And a shout-out to my oldest son Cameron, but hopefully I'll be able to see him soon," Michael said.

Cameron, 34, is currently serving a long prison term for various drug crimes. In 2010, he was convicted of selling methamphetamine.

In an interview backstage, Michael explained it will be another year before he can visit Cameron.

"My son is in federal prison. He's been a drug addict for a large part of his life. Part of the punishments - if you happen to have a slip, and this is for a prisoner who is nonviolent, as about a half-million of our drug-addicted prisoners are - he's spent almost two years in solitary confinement. Right now I've been told that I can't see him for two years. It's been over a year now. And I'm questioning the system."
