As with every Emmys telecast, Sunday night's awards show was full of shocking wins and losses.

One of the prevailing thoughts from Emmy experts about Sunday night's Emmy Awards was the lack of predictable winners. According to many awards blogs, the first award recipient of the evening was one of the most surprising: Nurse Jackie's Merritt Wever winning Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Wever may have been the most surprised, giving a memorably short speech in which she merely said, "I gotta go."

Emmy predictors also counted on The Amazing Race winning Reality-Competition Series every year, as it has for the past nine out of 10 years. Instead, NBC's singing-competition series The Voice won the category this year. Similarly, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart has won Best Variety Series every year for the past 10 years, but was upset by sister show The Colbert Report on Sunday.

One of the bigger expectations going into the telecast was for Scandal's Kerry Washington to win Lead Actress in a Drama Series. The award wound up going to Claire Danes of Homeland for the second year in a row. Had Washington won, she would have been the first African-American actress to win the category in Emmy history.

Netflix did not do as well as anticipated at the telecast this year, according to reports. Despite nominations in many of the top categories, House of Cards did not win any of its awards, though director David Fincher took home the win for Directing for a Drama Series.

A very unexpected surprise for fans and critics was The Newsroom's Jeff Daniels winning Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Many bloggers were predicting Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad, Damian Lewis of Homeland or Kevin Spacey of House of Cards to win the award.
