A plethora of new information about Person of Interest season 3 was released Tuesday, including details on Carter (Taraji P. Henson) and a description of the season as a whole.

Executive Producer Greg Plageman talked to TVLine about what fans can expect in the new season. He revealed that Carter would receive a lot of time on-screen and fans will learn more about his backstory.

"She had to accept a demotion at the hands of Human Resources," Plageman said, referring to where the show left Carter in the season 2 finale. "We've got Carter out there on the wing a little bit trying to figure out what her next move is. But suffice it to say she's got a big bone to pick with HR, and the fun is watching what Carter's going to do differently to try to figure it out and get back to where she was."

The producer said viewers will get to see insight into Carter's past, her personal life and how she got to where she is now. Fans can also expect flashbacks from Shaw (new series regular Sarah Shahi) in episode 5, giving more dimensions to the government assassin-turned-ally to Reese (Jim Caviezel) and Finch (Michael Emerson).

Though The Machine moved itself away from Finch and Reese in season 2, Plageman said season 3 will not be about finding the surveillance system.

"I don't know if I'd call it the search for it so much as, what is The Machine up to? I'm not certain its physical location is of paramount importance more so than 'What is the Machine evolving into? What sort of an organism is it becoming?" Plageman explained. "And is it expanding beyond the parameters of what even Finch designed?"
