While James Spader may be joining the cast of The Avengers: Age of Ultron in the spring, the former Boston Legal star is currently busy with a new NBC drama.

The Blacklist, which premiered last week to an audience of 12.66 million, focuses on Raymond 'Red' Reddington (Spader) and his interactions with FBI profiler Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boon). A former government agent gone rouge, Red suddenly decided to turn himself in and reveal information of some extremely high profile criminals but only if he could speak exclusively to Keen.

As several mysterious plots play out at once, Red's slow trickle of information increasingly kicks subplots into motion.

"It all is focused on Elizabeth Keen, this young female agent," Spader told the hosts of The View on Monday. "She has no knowledge of him at all but he has...an inexplicable intimate knowledge of her background, family history, very specific details about her past."

While his seeming obsession with the profile quickly drew Silence of the Lambs references, Spader claims that is not entirely the case for his character.

"You realize he doesn't have an obsession with her," Spader explained. "It really is a knowledge of her and a vested interest in her and what's to unfold for her in the future."

However, this vested interest is beginning to stir up problems at the Keen home, particularly after Elizabeth discovers that her husband may not be the man she thinks he is. In the meantime, Red is under the impression that this new little ruse of his will be rather entertaining.

"I think he just thinks [turning himself in] will be a great, fun adventure," Spader said, according to The View. "It will be a gas."

Find out how Red's plans will play out when NBC airs episode 2 of The Blacklist, "The Freelancer," tonight at 10 p.m. ET.
