Director Michael Bay unveiled a photo from the set of Transformers 4 featuring Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor in the upcoming installment, The Age of Extinction.

The picture follows a recent shot of Bay shooting the project with explosions occurring in the background.

Wahlberg recently told Digital Spy that the Transformers: Dark of the Moon follow-up would act as a "stand-alone movie". Kelsey Grammer has been cast as the movie's main villain, playing counter intelligence officer Harold Attinger. Stanley Tucci and Titus Welliver will also feature in the movie. The action film is about a mechanic (Wahlberg) and his daughter (Peltz) who make a discovery that "brings down Autobots and Decepticons - and a paranoid government official - on them," according to IMDb.

A plot description by Teaser-Trailer.com read as follows:

"Autobots and Decepticons have all but vanished from the face of the planet. However, a group of powerful, ingenious businessman and scientists attempt to learn from past Transformer incursions and push the boundaries of technology beyond what they can control - all while an ancient, powerful Transformer menace sets Earth in his crosshairs."

Bay has directed all the Transformers films and previously worked with Wahlberg on Pain & Gain. Both Shia Lebeouf and Megan Fox - who played central characters in the past Transformers movies - will not be featured in the 2014 action thriller. Bay also worked with Fox on 2014's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which is currently in post-production.

Transformers: Age of Extinction opens on June 27, 2014 in the U.S. and July 7 in the U.K.
