Under the Dome fans expecting a similar ending to the Stephen King book on which the series is based will be in for a surprise.

Under the Dome executive producer Neal Baer did an interview recently with The Wrap in which he revealed the ending to the TV show would not be the same as the ending to the novel.

"We're not going to end as the novel does with teenage aliens doing experiments with people on earth," Baer revealed. "But, we will have a major revelation that involves an understanding of the dome and what's behind it in a shocking way, a truly shocking way, I think. Also, what I love about the show is you never know who is going to appear."

The producer also revealed that he received permission from King to veer off in a new direction with the series rather than rigidly adapting what was in the novel. King himself will be writing the season 2 premiere when Under the Dome returns in summer 2014. Baer explained that the novel is more of a springboard for the show to cover new territory.

Fans can also expect a surprising development in season 2 with the possibility of someone entering the dome from the outside world. Baer said that fans will be surprised with who - or what - enters the dome as well as which main characters may die.

"Nobody's safe under the dome," Baer said, cryptically.

Season 2 of Under the Dome is set to premiere in summer 2014 but a specific date has not yet been scheduled.
