Marvel's Agents of SHIELD kicked off its inaugural season last week and Clark Gregg, who plays the newly revived Agent Coulson, made a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live to discuss the success of the new series.

The Joss Whedon (The Avengers) created program is the first live action series from the comic book franchise. Focused on the humans who help to keep the super-aspects of the world from being exploited, the special team of against is led by Coulson.

Although Gregg's character is most well known for his death in 2012's The Avengers, Coulson first showed up in 2008's Iron Man.

"I have a wonderful neighbor, or I used to at my old house, named John Favreau," Gregg told Kimmel of how he wound up with the part. "So he was putting together the cast for this movie of Iron Man...and I got a call. I never get a call...I got [a part] and it was a guy at the agency, I don't think he had a last name at that point, and it was maybe eight lines."

Despite a strong suspicion that he lines may windup cut form the final product, Gregg decided to take the role anyway.

"And that thing happened that doesn't happen which is, something about it kind of clicked," Gregg explained. "There was something about the kind of snarky banter between he and Tony Stark and maybe you need with superheroes around somebody to be sarcastic about them."

Now, quite a few years later, Gregg is sitting on Kimmel teasing a new development from Tuesday night's episode. While the "0-8-4" had already aired, the actor didn't want to give away the surprise for anyone who may not have watched yet.

"We have a guest, we have a special guest," Gregg said. "And sometimes in Marvel they bring out special information at the very end."

For viewers, this means you may want to sit through the credits in order to catch that last, important scene.

As for how Coulson managed to regain a pulse, Gregg says he may just be a zombie.

"I keep having this hankering for brains," Gregg joked.

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
