In a promo video for episode 3 of The Good Wife, titled A Precious Commodity, Will Gardner (Josh Charles) is seen asking his partner Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) to leave the firm.

The clip starts with the team taking a vote about negotiating Diane's exit package in secret meeting. Alicia (Juliana Margulies) looks very confused, as she asks, "What happened?" The video runs with the tag line "when you betray your partner, prepare for war," suggesting that Diane betrayed the firm in some way.

As an enraged Diana tells Will that this is her firm, he responds by saying that it was her firm.

According to the synopsis of the episode, released in September, Alicia might reconsider her decision to not leave Lockhart/Gardner to start her own firm, as Will will make her a "stunning offer." Judging by the promo it seems like Diane will be given the boot and maybe the offer involves Will asking Alicia to take over. The synopsis also suggests that Diane's Supreme Court candidacy puts her at odds with the members of the firm.

In other related news, Charles was spotted directing a new episode of The Good Wife with guest star America Ferrera and Alan Cumming in Brooklyn, New York Daily News reported Monday.

A picture shows Charles on set with Ferrera and Cumming. The Ugly Betty star will be returning as Natalie Flores, a former undocumented nanny. Flores' story arc featured her becoming a pawn of a dirty political campaign but eventually being rescued from the mess by Eli Gold (Cumming), who fell in love with her.

It was previously rumored that Charles might be making his exit with this season. The actor signed a new deal with the show earlier in 2013 but the deal was only for one year. King, who is also the executive producer of the show, revealed a bit about Gardner's fate in an August interview with TVLine.

"It's what Josh is about. He's someone who wants to always explore different sides of himself, and how [season 5] goes helps him decide what he wants to do," he said. "That sounds like there's some contentiousness in our relationship. There's not. Josh is one of the friendliest and nicest actors I've met. Anything that is contractual stays with the agents."

A Precious Commodity airs Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
