A new trailer for George Clooney's film, The Monuments Men, which stars Matt Damon and Cate Blanchett, was released on Oct. 10.

Clooney directs and stars in the film, which is based on the book by Robert M. Edsel, The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History. The story follows the work of an Allied group responsible for the fine arts, and tasked with saving cultural pieces and significant works of art before the Nazi regime sets off to obliterate all that comes in its way. This was an effort led by the U.S. Government during WWII to recapture precious artwork.

"They say who cares about art, but they are wrong, that is exactly why we are fighting, for culture, for a way of life," Clooney says in the trailer.

The team of experts that are assigned this mission is helmed by Clooney's character. Bill Murray plays an architecture from Chicago, John Goodman plays a sculptor, John Dujardin plays a director of design at the school of fine arts, and Blanchett plays a friend of Clooney's in Paris who knows where most of the important French art is hidden.

"How can I help you steal our stolen art," Blanchett's character tells Damon as he seeks her out for help.

In their effort to save masterpieces Clooney and his team of experts also guide U.S. soldiers letting them know of what they can and cannot destroy.

The film also stars Bob Balaban and Hugh Bonneville.

The film is scheduled for release on Dec. 18.
