Once Upon a Time co-creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz recently said that Peter Pan's (Robbie Kay) motivations would soon be revealed on the show.

The co-creators talked to TV Guide in a Friday report about where things are headed in Neverland, including details on Peter Pan, Henry (Jared S. Gilmore) and the Lost Boys.

"We are going to be telling you how Peter Pan became Peter Pan and why he made the decision he made," Kitsis revealed, referring to Pan's decision to take Henry hostage.

Kitsis added that some of the motivation for turning Pan into a complicated villain was Kurtz from Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness. The book was adapted into the film Apocalypse Now and features Kurtz gradually losing his mind while leading a mini-society in the wild.

"Imagine if you're stuck at 16, great, but for hundreds of years you're getting carded. What's that going to do to you?" Horowitz asked, hypothetically.

As for the Lost Boys, Horowitz explained that they thought it would be an interesting dilemma to have them be villains while still being children. "You can't really engage," he said.

Meanwhile, the creators noted that Henry's powers of belief might be enough to escape from Pan's clutches.

"For us, belief is so important in everything," Kitsis explained. "You need to believe in magic, you need to believe in yourself, you need to believe in your family. Neverland runs on belief. That, for us, was the uber theme. This is a show for believers and that is a show about hope."
