Neil Patrick Harris revealed the first picture of him as Hedwig for the Broadway revival of Hedwig and the Angry Inch via Twitter on Wednesday.

The picture is a close-up shot of Harris' face and doubles as the first poster for the film.

Harris perfectly emobodies the part of Hedwig, who was played by director/writer John Cameron Mitchell in the film adaptation. He is wearing a whole lot of lurid green mascara and his lips are colored a matching shade, with an overkill of glitter on his face. Harris' mouth is half open, with his tongue licking one end of his lip. One cannot see how he wears his hair though since his electrifying blond wig is missing from the shot.

The How I Met Your Mother star posted the picture on Twitter while announcing that tickets for the show will be made available soon:

"Hedwig News! The first ad image was just released, and I get to debut it! Tickets go on sale soon... " he captioned the picture.

The film adaptation was written and directed by Mitchell in 2001. Mitchell starred as Hedwig a.k.a Hansel Schmidt, an east German transgender singer. The film tells his story: a gay man who wishes to get married to his lover Luther Robinson, an American soldier. Hedwig opts for a sex change operation so he can go ahead with the wedding but due to certain complications the procedure is not succesful.

Things turn awry after that when Luther leaves Hedwig for another man. The jilted protagonist starts writing and performing to vent his anger, and also finds musicians to join his band Hedwig and the Angry Inch, one of which he falls in love with.

The music and lyrics for the songs in the film were composed by Stephen Trask.
