Big Bang Theory star Mayim Bialik cleared up rumors about the injuries she sustained from a August 2012 car accident, telling E! News on Oct. 18 that they could have been much worse.

The actress filed a lawsuit against both the driver of the other car involved in the crash as well as Hertz-Rent-A-Car for injuries she received from the collision. The court proceedings are still underway.

"I had a horrible accident," the actress blogged shortly after the Aug. 15, 2012 accident. "I will be okay. I have all my fingers but a very impaired right hand. It was very bloody and scary but I am ok. A man named Tim and another man whose name I don't know saved me from losing a lot of blood and helped me talk to my husband at the scene. I am grateful to them."

Her blog posts about injuries to her hand resulted in several rumors that she had lost it in the accident. Bialik cleared up those rumors at the GLSEN's Respect Awards at the Beverly Hills Hotel over the weekend.

"I did not almost lose my hand," she told E! "I sustained significant injuries for which I am still recovering and will continue to be recovering."

The actress did acknowledge that while she is still recovering and maintaining a possible outlook on the situation she said, "I'm aware of it every day not being one hundred percent...At least it wasn't my face torn open."

There is no word on just how much she is suing Hertz for.

Bialik rose to fame in the early nineties as the title character on Blossom and these days is best known for her Emmy-nominated work on CBS' The Big Bang Theory, where she plays microbiologist Amy Farrah Fowler. Her character is the girlfriend of Jim Parsons' Dr. Sheldon Cooper, a role that has won 3 Emmys. She joined the series in 2010.

The Big Bang Theory airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
