The couple, who started dating in early 2012, decided to have such a small wedding because of their unaccommodating schedule.

"We are so busy that we finally just came to terms the other night and were like, 'So we change our minds and we want to elope,'" she told People in August. "We just got so overwhelmed by the decisions."

Her family, however, was supportive of the pair's decision for an intimate ceremony.

"I thought my mother was going to be [disappointed] because I'm her baby," Clarkson told ABC earlier in October. "I thought that was going to be weird but she totally got it. She actually responded, 'I'm just happy I don't have to buy a dress.'"
