Mariah Carey recently sat down with CNN's Nischelle Turner and spoke about the meaning of her upcoming single The Art Of Letting Go.

"There is an art to learning how to let go of things in your life, people in your life, things that are not good for you. Whatever the case may be," she explained. "As a songwriter I never like to be too totally specific because I like people to be able to make it about their own life experiences."

The mother of two also explained that the song is emotional and a definition of who she is.

"There's an emotion to it as you listen from the song to start to finish," she said about the single. "You can tell that it's me. If it's anybody who has ever met or who has been listening to my music over however long."

The 43-year-old will release the single via Facebook on Nov. 11, primarily to cater to her fans overseas.

"I realize the importance of being able to have my international fans to experience the song as well as my domestic fans," she said.

The upcoming record was originally set for release on on July 23, but Carey felt that she needed more time to perfect her first record since 2010. In June, she tweeted her fans to let them know that she postponed the release date.

"While making this album, I got so immersed in the creative process that I just don't feel I would be doing it justice to release it on 7/23," she tweeted. "I'd rather not exclude meaningful songs. I want to give you this album as it's meant to be heard. When I'm ready, you'll be the first to know."
