The first trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier was released Thursday, featuring Chris Evans reprising his role as the titular hero.

Marvel revealed the trailer for the Captain America sequel ahead of its early 2014 release date. The trailer features Captain America/Steve Rogers continuing to readjust to modern life after being awoken from his 70-year coma.

The superhero then becomes involved in another global plot that could end the world. Scarlett Johansson is reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, once again teaming up with Captain America. They also enlist in the help of the Falcon/Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), an avian superhero with telepathic abilities. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is also returning as the director of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Film legend Robert Redford is also appearing in the film as Alexander Pierce, a senior leader at S.H.I.E.L.D. Watch the trailer here:

Marvel also released the first official poster for the Captain America sequel on Tuesday. The poster features Captain America getting ready to jump out of a helicopter with his trusted shield on his back.

More intriguingly, a shot of various significant buildings in Washington, D.C. are featured below him, indicating that the plot may include the U.S. government.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the first sequel to 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, though the character also appeared in Marvel's The Avengers.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 4, 2014.
