CSI: Crime Scene Investigation has been missing a key character for most of season 14 but Nick Stokes is slated to return for the series ninth episode.

The character, portrayed by George Eads, mysteriously disappeared from screens following "Torch Song" on Oct. 9. Although the character's disappearance will not be explained on air, Stokes will return to the plotline for episode 9, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Eads took a leave from the series back in August following a confrontation with a pregnant writer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Following the altercation, Eads reportedly threatened to quit while in a meeting with showrunner Carol Mendelsohn. The incident resulted in Eads receiving some time off from the program.

Having been with the CBS drama since it's inception, Eads spoke of his long-term commitment to CSI a few weeks before the confrontation.

'It's like a book that has chapters really, I could tell you about what the chapters about now," Eads said of his tenure on the show during a video interview with Maximo TV. "For me personally, you go through everything from thinking, 'I'm a big movie star and I'm gonna leave,' to being realistic about that....There's a lot of times I felt frustrated and just the fact that I stuck with it and tried to just improve as an actor, you know, and just try to look at it as every day I'm learning something."

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS. Check out a promo for this week's episode, "Passed Pawns."
