Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton is training to obtain a pilot's license and follow in the footsteps of her late grandfather, she said Thursday.

While riding a Routemaster bus along with husband Prince William in honor of London's Poppy Day and the Royal British Legion, she revealed that she has "had a few lessons on fixed wing" aircraft, as opposed to the helicopters flown by her husband and Prince Harry.

Middleton's grandfather, Peter Middleton, was a Royal Air Force pilot.

Taking the ride with actress Barbara Windsor and newscaster Alastair Stewart, Kate then went on to take about Prince George. She said her recently christened son was "half asleep" when the royal couple departed from Kensington Palace earlier that day.

"He's behaving himself," Prince William added, according to the Daily Mail.

"It's very sociable," he later said about riding public transporation. "Although I supposed everyone's got their earphones in."

After getting off the bus at the High Street Kensington tube station, the royal couple came upon a group of motorcycle riders and the Duke of Cambridge told them, "I really want to go on the bikes!" The bikers then told him he was welcome to take a ride with them anytime.

For the Thursday outing to meet staff and volunteers at London's Poppy Day charity appeal, Kate wore a long, red L.K. Bennett coat that was belted at the waist.

Poppy Day charity initiative are set to raise 1 million pounds ($1.69 million) in a single day for the Royal British Legion, which provides monetary support for Armed forces members and their families. It falls before Remembrance Day, (Sunday, Nov. 10) when the British honor their fallen soldiers.
