Garrett Hedlund and Emilia Clarke may be up for the roles of John and Sarah Connor for Terminator 5, according to new reports.

Three actresses -- Clarke, Brie Larson (21 Jump Street), and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) -- are being appraised for Sarah Connor's role, Schmoes Know reported. The film website also suggested that Hedlund and Boyd Holbrook (The Host) are being considered for the role of John.

The film is rumored to be directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World), but the filmmaker hasn't given any confirmation yet.

"For publicity, I think I'm doing everybody a favor to leave it as a rumor," Taylor told Film School Rejects.

Taylor has directed episodes of Game of Thrones, which Clarke stars in. In an interview with Moviefone published on Nov. 7, the director spoke about working on Thor and the rumors of him coming on board for the fifith installment of Terminator.

While talking about the "daunting" task of directing a film like Thor, Taylor said working on Game of Thrones helped tremendously.

"Every challenge seems potentially daunting. I don't think I could have done the job if I hadn't done Game of Thrones because it got me comfortable with epic imagery and stunts and chopping people's hands off and stuff," he said. "And I don't think I would have been offered the job without it. But I was going in pretty weary, and it wasn't the scale, because having shot in Iceland with White Walkers and stuff."

"I guess it was the scale of the enterprise," he said, "working for a huge corporation on a sequel that is part of a much bigger franchise that is already rolling along."

The interviewer tried to trick the director into admitting that he was involved with mega project (Terminator 5) by stating it as a known fact. He suggested that it was funny that the director had suffered any "trepidations" about Thor because he will be going into another huge sequel with Terminator.

Taylor was careful not to confirm the claims and replied, "Well, I would still qualify it as a rumor.

"I call it that for various reasons, partially because as we celebrate Thor, it'd probably be better for everybody if we label it a rumor," he said.

In a previous interview, the director said his inspiration for the fifth installment of Terminator 5 came from the lasting effect the Batman franchise had on him.

"We all love the first two and I actually went back and watched them again and my respect level only went up. I think there is another famous franchise that had a wonderful beginning and then turned a little bananas," he said. "Tim Burton's first Batman is just glorious and by the time it got around to nipples on costumes and all that stuff it sort of lost its way."

"And for [Christopher] Nolan to come in an say 'I respect this material so much I'm going to take it up to (hand motion) here, that's a great inspiration.' I think any version, whoever is directing Terminator, would be very respectful and serve the first two and probably feel a bit more freedom by the end."

Terminator 5 is scheduled for release on July 1, 2015.
