With Oscar season under way, the Supporting Actress race is becoming more and more competitive.

Talk show maven Oprah Winfrey is the leading contender to get a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards. Winfrey had a standout role in Lee Daniels' The Butler and may even win the award because of her popularity in Hollywood.

One person who may be able to take Winfrey down is Lupita Nyong'o from 12 Years a Slave. The young actress has received standout reviews from critics for her performance as a young slave.

Jennifer Lawrence is expected to get another Oscar nomination this year, one year after her Best Actress win for Silver Linings Playbook. Lawrence is part of an all-star cast in American Hustle.

Octavia Spencer may get a nomination for her performance in the indie drama Fruitvale Station. Veteran actress June Squibb is also projected to get a nomination for the indie drama Nebraska.

Other contenders that could get a nomination from the Oscars include Julia Roberts and/or Margo Martindale from August: Osage County, Sally Hawkins from Blue Jasmine, Sarah Paulson from 12 Years a Slave and Cameron Diaz from The Counselor.
