Angelina Jolie stares you down as a horned villainess in the first movie poster for her upcoming project Maleficent, released Tuesday, Nov. 12.

While wearing the character's signature black headdress with horns and cape, the actress' eyes are a bright blue and green color and her lips are blood red.

The 38-year-old stars in the Disney film as the title character, the evil force who puts a curse on Princess Aurora, also known as Sleeping Beauty). Elle Fanning plays Aurora in the film, but the story is told from Maleficent's point of view. The film explains what drove her to curse Fanning's character.

Jolie's transformation into Maleficent even terrified small children in real life, she admitted.

"These little kids would visit the set, and I would think, 'Oh, I am a Disney character,' so I would go over to them, and say, 'Hi there.' They would just scream," she said at a Disney expo in August. "One little kid even said, 'Mommy, please make the mean witch stop talking to me.'"

"[Jolie's daughter] Vivienne was the only 4-year-old who didn't scream when she saw me," the actress joked.

Three of Jolie's children with Brad Pitt nabbed roles in the movie. In August 2012, Walt Disney Studios confirmed that Vivienne, 5, would play a child version of Princess Aurora. Two months later, it was reported that Pax, 10, and Zahara, 8, would have smaller parts in the film.

Jolie credited her brother, James Haven, for reminding her of her childhood fascination with the evil sorceress and persuading her to get involved with the project.

"Since I was a little girl, Maleficent was always my favorite. I was terrified of her, but I was so drawn to her," Jolie said. "She had this elegance and grace, and yet she was so cruel. Just wonderfully and deliciously cruel."

Maleficent hits theaters May 30, 2014, according to Us Weekly. A short trailer for the film will be released Wednesday, Nov. 13.
