The rumored sequel to 10 Things I Hate About You, which stars Evan Rachel Wood and Thomas McDonell, will recommence filming in Los Angeles and Malibu this December.

Filming had begun earlier this year in January but was stalled midway, now the producers hope to wrap it up by April next year.

The film is written and directed by Wil Junger, who helmed 10 Things I Hate About You, but the filmmaker suggested that the movie is in no way a sequel to the 1999 teen-comedy hit, but more of a thematic spin-off. The things the two films share in common are the referential title and elements of a romantic-comedy.

Polaris Pictures' Jeremy Wall arranged the financing with investor Legacy Point Capital helmed by Anne Brensley for the film.

The movie, which is expected for release next year, follows the love story of two depressed individuals, played by Wood and McDonell, who meet in the absurdest of circumstances. Both of them are attempting to commit suicide from the same jumping-off point. As both of them get to know each other they fall in love and find something worth living for. But things go awry when McDonell's character, who is a musician, is about to sign a record deal, and his ex-girlfriend tries to lure him back.

Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt star in 10 Things I Hate About You.
