Arnold Schwarzenegger is rumored to play the role of a heroic human being tasked with protecting the Connor family in the fifth installment of Terminator, the film's writer's hinted recently.

The actor had played a human being in the past installments of the franchise but this time around it seems like he will be coming back to earth and playing a mortal, albeit an exceptionally strong one. The film's writers, Patrick Lussier (Drive) and Laeta Kalogridis (Avatar), disclosed their idea for Schwarzenegger's character in an interview with The Examiner.

"Incredibly, Arnold Schwarzenegger may not play the role of a machine in the next film, but a potentially heroic human figure in or close to the Connor family. One theory is that Schwarzenegger's remarkable ability to protect the Connor family in the 1940s or 1950s with antiquated weaponry by today's standards ultimately inspired the machines to develop a terminator in his likeness that was eventually sent to 1984 when Sarah Connor was first targeted for termination."

Three actresses are done testing for the role of Sarah Connor for Terminator 5. The competition seems to be among Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Brie Larson (The Spectacular Now) and Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black). They are reportedly waiting to hear back regarding the studio's final decision.

The roles of John Connor, which Tom Hardy is being eyed for, and John's father Kyle Cleese also need to be filled. It is rumored that director Alan Taylor and Schwarzenegger want to hire the female lead first.

Terminator 5 will be released in July 2015, according to IMDb.
