Jennifer: I think what was so moving about that is it was so different. i couldn't think of any other singer or band that sounded like that. its just phillips. Its just Phillips Phillips song and there's nothing on the radio that sounds like that. congratulations.

Tyler: With your vulnerability and style. I heard a little Paul Simon in there. I think you are the man.

Randy: I did not love the song but what I did love is you made something more out of that song. You have that Beyonce kind of swag. You brought the song to life but I thought the song was just OK. 

Jennifer: I thought you sang the song really well. If I was thinking about what your  single was gonna be ... you have so much soul in your voice. That's whats surprising about this song. We missed that in that song. You tried to bring that to it. When you make your record - you'll make many records - you have to be able to say to someone, this is not me. Thats your option as an artist. Everything has to be You Jessica. 

Tyler:  I know how good you can sing and so can millions of people in America. But this wasn't your song.

08:38 - Judges give their opinion on round two: TIE

Steven Tyler says: When it comes to Philiip Phillips, you don't always have to be a good egg. Tonight he's hatched some egg but I would have to say that Jessica's done it again.

Randy: I think that round was an even round two. 

Jennifer: Jessica blew it away so hard in the first round but i'm gonna have to go with Phillip on that round. I felt like that was authentic Phillip right there.

8:15 - Judges give their thoughts on round one:

Jennifer: For me this is a tough one because its like the battle of the opposites. How do you compare with Jessica. This amazing vocal power. and then we have this modern day crooner. he has originality, artistry. A the end of the day, America has a tough job. Who is really making you pick up that phone and vote?

Randy: Round one probably went to Jessica

8:12 - Phillip Phillips performs "Stand by Me" chosen by Simon Fuller. His rendition of the song sounds like a "Phillip" original - a soft rock version of the classic song. He's made this song his own. 

8:05 - Jessica Sanchez sings Whitney Houston's "I have nothing" beautifully. 

8:02 - Judges and Ryan Seacrest enter the stage - 7,000 die hard Idol fans are here to see the final two perform. Phillip fans and Jessica fans in the crowd are going wild as the two finalists come on stage. Jessica says "this is insane ive never even dreamed of this moment and its happening to the both of us"

The top two contestants will battle it out tonight to become the champion of American Idol 2012 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips will both sing three songs. One will be a song selected by AI creator Simon Fuller. The winner of AI will release this song as their first single. 

Followed by tonight's performance will be a a two hour grand finale Wednesday which will finally reveal the winner. Artists slated to perform tomorrow are Rihanna, last year's AI winner Scotty McCreery and Aerosmith. 

There are rumors that Joshua Ledet, AI favorite who was eliminated last week, will be performing live with Fantasia. Jessica Sanchez will duet with original "Dreamgirls" singer Jennifer Holliday. But the singing partner that Phillip Phillips will duet with is still shrouded in mystery. 

Despite suffering from painful kidney stones, Phillips will perform three numbers tonight. However, he has been advised by his doctor to get surgery as soon as the competition finishes. 

Jessica Sanchez is missing out on her prom to perform in the final shows of the 11th season of American Idol. 

If Jessica wins, she will be the youngest ever to win the competition, aged only 16. The sweet singer has gained a huge following on Twitter and if social media was the biggest factor to determine the winner, it would definitely be her. 

But Phillips has a way of driving the girls crazy with his performance with the guitar. Last week's rendition of "We've Got Tonight" was a stunner - which earned him a standing ovation from the judges. 

So who will it be?
