Pregnant American Idol alum Kelly Clarkson revealed she is experiencing morning sickness around-the-clock.

The season 1 winner told TODAY anchor Savannah Guthrie on Monday she is unsure why the illness a pregnant woman experiences in her first trimester is called morning sickness.

"That's my big joke right now," the newly married singer told Guthrie. "Cause it's like, all day and all night. I'm just looking forward to the second trimester!"

Clarkson said she and new husband Brandon Blackstock were "dying to tell people" their good news but waited until the pregnancy was further along. They decided to share the news because the morning sickness forced her to cancel scheduled performances.

"I had to cancel something because I'd been so ill, so I didn't want people to think I was canceling (because) I was lazy or something, so we just told people," Clarkson shared. "But we had a really good reason."

When asked if she can guess her baby's gender, Clarkson, who also performed her latest Christmas single Underneath The Tree, said she believes it's a girl.

"She's killing me," Clarkson jokes. "Of course it's a girl, causing the trouble."

The Stronger singer first revealed her pregnancy via Twitter on Nov. 19 and wrote: "I'm pregnant!!! Brandon and I are so excited!" She then described the news as the "best early Christmas present ever."

She shared the news less than a week after telling Jay Leno on Tonight Show that she and her husband were "trying like rabbits" to get pregnant.

"Practice makes perfect!" she told Leno. "We're trying, trying, trying."
