New stills and behind the scenes images featuring Orlando Bloom, Ian McKellen, and Peter Jackson were revealed by Warner Bros.

A first look for the dragon -- which has been advertised on an Air New Zealand Boeing 777-300ER -- was also revealed.

27 new images were featuring most of the cast and Jackson directing them were also revealed by Collider. The dragon smaug is being portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch, who lend his voice to the beast.

In the most recent TV spot for the film, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) is seen in the cave which is also a treasure trove and the lair of the dragon, who has been asleep for a very long time. Baggins is startled by the sudden jangling sound of coins, to see them flowing down from the peak of one heap. The shot cuts to the dragon, who has been stirred awake from his sleep, made known by his open eye which emerges from beneath the sea of coins.

In the Desolation of Smaug, Bilbo and his troop of dwarfs head toward the Lonely Mountain to reclaim their homeland while Oakenshield encourages them to fight Smaug the Dragon. Bard the Bowman (Luke Evans) plays a key role in the film and the character will be reprised in the next installment, There and Back Again. Legolas will also feature in the last film of the trilogy but the nature of his role, which could also just be a cameo, has not been confirmed.

The film also features Beorn (Mikael Persbrandt), who can shift between the form of a man and bear.

Filming for The Hobbit: There and Back Again is already underway.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits theaters Dec. 13. The Hobbit: There and Back Again is scheduled for release on July 18, 2014.
