Actor Paul Walker, who is famous for his appearance in the Fast & Furious film series, died suddenly in a car crash on Saturday and an eyewitness' footage of the scene has been released.

Walker, 40, died in a car accident as he sat in the passenger seat of a red 2005 Porsche Carrera GT on Nov. 30. The vehicle was driven by his friend Roger Rodas, 38, who also died in the crash.

The car hit into a utility pole in Santa Clarita in Southern California, TMZ was the first to report.

In the footage released by an unidentified eyewitness, black smoke is seen pouring out the car that is in flames. The two men that recorded the video were driving past it slowly and moved further away out of fear that Rodas' car was about to explode. The footage ends with a woman saying that someone is in the car and an explosion is heard.

The pair had just left an event given by Walker's non-profit Reach Out Worldwide that was raising funds to support victims who suffered from last month's typhoon in the Philippines.

The team that handles Walker's official Facebook page confirmed his death in a statement on the social media site late Saturday.

"It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences. - #TeamPW."

Chicago Tribune reported on Monday that speed played a role in the car accident.

Walker was away on a holiday break from filming the seventh installment of the Fast & Furious film series. He appeared in five of the first six films. He was scheduled to resume filming in Atlanta, to once again play the role of law enforcement officer Brian O'Connor.
